“Damsel in Distress”- Tropes vs Women in Video Games


I think a part of why I love MLP so much is because it actively reverts typical tropes. Take for example, the episode “Dog and Pony Show”, where Rarity is captured by Diamond Dogs. Spike makes it his mission to rescue his damsel from the get go, and has many delusional day dreams of himself as a knight in a heroic role, rescuing her. Ultimately, Rarity saves HERSELF, using her wit and acting skills to aid in her escape. The episode ends with her waltzing out the front door of the prison she was kept in, with far more diamonds and gems than were stolen from her to begin with. 

Anyways, a great start to Tropes vs Women in Video Games series! I can’t wait to see more.
