DC Women Kicking Ass: Okay, who has the Robin fetish at DC Comics?
From the usually reliable folks at Bleeding Cool comes news of a book which seems to ready made for for me to rage and mock about at the same time. If it is true. Which it probably is.
I understand, from a well placed source, that the current tittle tattle around the Batbooks is that Jeff…
Why would you be pissed at a book with all of the Robins in it? Just because there are no females featured? And, by the way, let’s be honest, Steph was never really Robin. That was a part of Bruce’s trying to bring Tim back. Not that I have anything against her, but, well, it’s just not real. Of course, then again, I am a huge Robin fanboy, but…
Bullshit.
Whatever Bruce’s motivations may have been, he made Steph his Robin. He gave her the costume. He trained her. He put his life in her hands. She was his partner for four months.
What does it take to be really Robin? Helping Batman solve crimes? She did that. Saving his life? She did that. Partnering with Batgirl? She did that. Ignoring Batman’s orders to stay put, instead risking herself to try and help him? She did that, except this time Robin got fired for it. And later? Bruce admitted that he was unfair to her.
Anyone who says that wasn’t real, that none of that counted, wasn’t paying attention. Her treatment by DC during and after doesn’t undermine the fact that she wore that symbol and did it proud. It does, in fact, make it all the more important that we remember, that we shout from the fucking rooftops that the girl Robin matters too.
And personally? I don’t buy petty ulterior motivations on Bruce’s part. I can buy him being a callous manipulative jackass. I can’t buy him endangering his city and the people in it by putting someone in that costume that he doesn’t believe in.
Other, greater comic books seem to remember Steph was a Robin, so eat me.

You’re a huge Robin fanboy, except for when your love of Robins would have to include you validating that a woman was Robin. Because NO GIRLS ALOUD OMG
